A Semi-Sweet Palette Hits the Spot

I'm in love! I've been researching, looking, picking, chickening out, and so on so forth eyeshadow palettes for well over a year. Last year I purchased the It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty palette which has some amazing matte shades (see review here). But I have, for some time been wanting to get a new palette with some more shimmery shades.

I don't think I'm fully explaining how obsessed I've been... but basically every time I entered any store with makeup I was on the search! I finally landed on Too Faced shadows because they have great reviews... but I just couldn't settle on one of their smaller palettes and their Chocolate Bar palette didn't seem quite right.

Then I found it (cue church choir singing and light streaming from heaven) the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette. It was the one, so I immediately put in an order online. Apparently I was ahead of the times because I couldn't find one in the stores to test. And now to the review!

I'm sorry for all the build-up, but I needed you all to be right here with me and my excitement!

These shadows go on with a lot of payoff yet are so smooth and almost creamy in texture. They also blend together amazingly well, I barely touch my blending brush to my lid and it's done. Also, the staying power on these shadows is amazing, and I have those oily lids :)

Also, as the name would suggest, they do smell like cocoa powder. Not what I'm looking for in most eye shadows, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. It perks up your morning a little when you smell cocoa on your face... never a bad thing.

The palette includes mattes, shimmery/metallics, and 2 glittery shades. I have had such wonderful experiences with the shimmers and mattes. The only issues I have had is with the pink glitter shade, I don't feel like it's very pigmented and it's had to get the glitter to stick to my lid. I may have to work more with that shade.

Below are 3 looks I did with the shadows. I realize they all look similar, I don't know what it is, but I feel like I can pile on eye makeup and then it looks just the same as if I put on a quick everyday one color. Grrr.... but that's a gripe for another day.

Rum Raisin all over the lid and smudged into lower lash line. Truffled in the outer
corner and Coconut Creme in the inner corner  and on the brow bone.

Coconut Creme all of the lid with Peanut Butter in the crease. Puddin'
on the outer corner to darken and just a little Licorice to darken further.
Pink Sugar in the inner corner to highlight.

Bon Bon all over the lid with Truffled in the crease and Puddin' to darken
the crease. Butter Pecan on the inner half of the lid. Peanut Butter to blend out
the crease shades a bit with Coconut Creme in the inner corner. Truffled and
Bon Bon smudged under the lower lash line.
Now that I've gushed over my current love, I'm ready to go home and experiment some more! Have a great week all and I'll talk to you soon!

January Ipsy Bag

My January Ipsy Glam Bag arrived late last week and I was really excited to see what new products there were for me to test out. I wasn't disappointed!

Manna Kadar Cosmetics  Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion
I've already tried this product mixed in with my foundation and it does give me a nice glow and doesn't look to shimmery or greasy.

A beautiful golden taupe shade, I'm really excited to try this!

I've been on the market for a new daytime moisturizer so it'll be great to give this one a shot!

I always am looking for great black eye liner.

(MALIN + GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm
Oops, I forgot to take a picture of this one!

Beauty Haul - 01.17

I've done quite a bit of shopping these last few weekends! I wanted to share some of the beauty products I've purchased and what my first impressions are.

These products are from Sephora and The Body Shop.

Chocolate Box Shimmer Cube - I have been wanting to try some more shimmery eye shadows as currently everything I have is matte. I have tried this once and wasn't impressed with the payoff on the pink shade. But it's just so beautiful, I'm willing to give it another go!

Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel Oil - I am in LOVE with the Body Shop's cleansing oil so I thought I would give this gel oil a shot. I haven't tried it yet, but I have high hopes.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara - I just had to pick up another one of these! I love this mascara it's a nice wet formula, doesn't take much to get long voluminous lashes, and does not clump! Yep, I'm sold and oh-so-reluctant to try a new mascara.

Rosebud Perfume Co, Rosebud Salve in a Tub - I've never really found a lip balm that's changed the world for me, and unfortunately this product is no different. I love the scent and it does make my lips soft, but you do need to reapply and it's not a miracle worker. But, it's a good product.

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette - This product is pricey but I'd heard good things from Youtubers and I had a gift card sooo... anyway, I'm not going to speak much about this product because you'll be seeing it in my monthly favorites. But it's good!

Well that's my little haul... I did just receive the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette so stay tuned for a look and review!

5 Minute Face and Hair

On Sundays, I usually spend time with the family and don't want to be bothered with too much makeup.

However, on the off-chance I need to go somewhere else or we all go out to eat I do want to look presentable. So this past Sunday, I thought I'd document my 5 minute face and hair look.

First, I did my foundation with the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream in Light, Too Faced concealer in Vanilla, and Bare Minerals Veil Touch-Up Foundation in Light. Let me know if you'd like to see more specifically how I do my foundation, I've never really done that before. I used my new tarte cream cheek stain in Dreamer (similar here), which I got for Christmas, to add some color to the apples of my cheeks.

Then, on the eyes I used Java from my It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Eyeshadow Pallette with the Crown Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush (the crease side). Starting about 1/4 of the way from the corner of my eye I lined the upper lash line with this color. Without re-dipping the brush I drew a little flick. Then, because I've got those fun hooded eyes (grrr...) I have to pull my eyelids straight and connect the lines. And again, with that same brush I line the outer half of my lower lash line.

Next, I dipped the other side of the brush to dip into a light color, I used a mix of Sheer Joy and Love. I patted this color onto my eyelid to brighten everything up and to combat those greasy lids :)

Finally, I topped it all off with my favorite mascara, tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara.

See, easy peasy!

Then the hair, my favorite and the easiest part!

I used this Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo on the roots of my hair to tackle grease and add volume. Then I took the front bits of my hair and clipped it back. Yay! Done! (Don't mind the under-eye bags, I'm not sure what happened here.)

I hope you liked this quick Sunday or any day look.
